Forest School

The idea of forest schools comes from Scandinavia, where the children play and learn in woodlands and other outside areas, as part of their curriculum.

Learning in the outdoor environment can help with self esteem, confidence, independence, empathy, social skills and communication.  All of which link with the Early Years Foundation stage objectives.

The children participate in tasks and activities that engage their imaginations and help them to succeed in challenges they set themselves.

The children learn about risk management, problem solving, co-operation and using their own initiative.

Our Forest School runs at both Nursery Sites and is run by our Forest School Practitioner.  They are fully qualified as a Level III OCN Forest School Leader.  Between them and our Early Years Practitioners they run fantastic forest school sessions and events.  On a weekly basis all groups have a forest school session regardless of the weather; the children go out and have fun in the outdoors.  Each site has their own fully equipped forest school classroom, fire pit, mud pit, wooded areas, vegetable patches and storytelling circles.

Projects develop at the site through children’s interests, these are carried on back in the rooms.

There is so much to do and enjoy in the woods, children will be able to learn about the environment, make dens, woodland crafts, obstacle courses and just have fun learning outside the classroom.
